GPA Calculator

Grade point average (GPA) serves as a commonly accepted indicator of academic achievement, representing the mean of grades obtained in various courses, while taking into account the credit weight assigned to each course. Grading systems can vary significantly between countries, and even between institutions within the same country. This calculator enables users to enter both letter grades and numerical values, facilitating the conversion of letter grades into their respective numerical equivalents as outlined below.

  • A+ = 4.3 grade points
  • A = 4 grade points
  • A- = 3.7 grade points
  • B+ = 3.3 grade points
  • B = 3 grade points
  • B- = 2.7 grade points
  • C+ = 2.3 grade points
  • C = 2 grade points
  • C- = 1.7 grade points
  • D+ = 1.3 grade points
  • D = 1 grade point
  • D- = 0.7 grade points
  • F = 0 grade points

Grades such as P (pass), NP (not pass), I (incomplete), and W (withdrawal) are excluded from GPA calculations.

In the U.S., most educational institutions use a similar grading scale, though variations exist. For example, some schools might use an E instead of an F, or omit grades like A+ or B-. Additionally, certain courses may carry more weight, meaning that the grades earned in them have a more significant impact on the cumulative GPA. This calculator accounts for such differences by factoring in the number of credits associated with each course, reflecting its importance in the overall GPA calculation.
